Vault RNAs aid RNA virus infection by facilitating cytoplasmic localization of hnRNP C and ELAVL1
Various RNA viruses induce expression of small non-coding vtRNAs during infection. Stok et al. show that vtRNAs promote replication of two distinct viruses. Using mass spectrometry, they uncover the vtRNA interactome, which includes ELAVL1 and hnRNP C. VtRNAs facilitate nuclear export of these proviral factors, which enhances viral replication.
