Mashup Score: 0Excellent long-term survivorship, radiologic and functional outcomes of operatively treated tibial plateau fractures - 1 day(s) ago
Long-term reports of operative tibial plateau fractures are scarce. This study aimed to define long-term knee survivorship with total knee arthroplasty (TKA) as the primary endpoint, assess radiographic and functional outcomes, and the relationship between reduction and functional outcomes.

Fractures that occurred during adulthood were associated with risk for future fractures, regardless of age of fracture occurrence, according to cohort study results published in JAMA Network Open.“Many studies investigating prior fracture as a risk factor for subsequent fracture focus on those occurring after middle to late adulthood. Consequently, nearly all the major fracture risk

Increased fracture risk represents an emerging and severe complication of diabetes. The resulting prolonged immobility and hospitalisations can lead to substantial morbidity and mortality. In type 1 diabetes, bone mass and bone strength are reduced, resulting in up to a five-times greater risk of fractures throughout life. In type 2 diabetes, fracture risk is increased despite a normal bone mass. Conventional dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry might underestimate fracture risk, but can be improved by applying specific adjustments.

Mashup Score: 3Nutritional intake and bone health - 2 year(s) ago
Osteoporotic or fragility fractures affect one in two women and one in five men who are older than 50. These events are associated with substantial morbidity, increased mortality, and an impaired quality of life. Recommended general measures for fragility fracture prevention include a balanced diet with an optimal protein and calcium intake and vitamin D sufficiency, together with regular weight-bearing physical exercise. In this narrative Review, we discuss the role of nutrients, foods, and dietary patterns in maintaining bone health.

~10% of operatively treated tibial plateau #fractures convert to TKA by 15yrs — rising to 15% in bicondylar (2.7× risk). In unicondylar, non-anatomic reduction = 3.7× higher TKA risk. KOS-ADLS worse in bicondylars. Anatomic reduction matters. Read here 👉https://t.co/DV2Q6KUh4q
