Mashup Score: 2A systematic review of sex-based reporting in topical glaucoma medication clinical trials - 8 hour(s) ago
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued guidance in 2016 that sex should be treated as a biological variable in clinical studies; however, previous research has shown that biomedical studies still fail to include sex as a biological variable (SABV) in study design and analysis. We hypothesize that despite evidence for sex-specific glaucoma risk factors, clinical trials for glaucoma topical medications also fail to treat SABV.

Mashup Score: 24
This study aims to assess the risk of glaucoma-related adverse events (GRAEs) in pediatric patients following silicone oil use in vitreoretinal (VR) surgery, positing that silicone oil exposure increases GRAE risk.

Mashup Score: 0Should We Use Disposable Tonometers and Gonioprisms in the Office? - 1 month(s) ago
Goldmann applanation tonometry is a critical element of all initial and most follow-up ophthalmic examinations. Goldmann applanation tonometry is the most commonly used instrument for intraocular pressure measurements in the clinic and in the large multicentered randomized controlled trials that give guidance on glaucoma care, and it is an important part of every ophthalmic examination in patients with and without glaucoma. Gonioscopy is essential in determining the status of the anterior chamber angle for all new glaucoma patients or glaucoma suspects and is performed serially when a change is suspected.

Mashup Score: 3American Glaucoma Society-American Academy of Ophthalmology Position Statement on Nicotinamide Use for Glaucoma Neuroprotection - 2 month(s) ago
Glaucoma is the most common neurodegenerative disease and the leading cause of irreversible blindness globally, with a projected worldwide prevalence expected to affect 111.8 million people by 2040.1 While conventional intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering therapy for glaucoma can effectively slow or halt the disease, many patients continue to experience optic nerve damage and visual field loss even when IOP reduction has been substantial. There is a strong unmet need for neuroprotective, IOP-independent agents that can both slow retinal ganglion cell damage (neuroprotection) and potentially heal damaged retinal ganglion cells (neurorecovery, neuroregeneration), as was identified in a 2022 American Glaucoma Society Position Paper and elsewhere.

Systematic review of topical glaucoma medication trials finds that while sex-reporting and matching is usually achieved, almost all trials did not follow sex-based reporting of AEs or med efficacy. https://t.co/Imy9iulWAU @zaneskii #ophthalmology #glaucoma https://t.co/bwsiUo80SH
