Medicine’s changemakers—meet the medics fighting for health equity

Meet the early career medics paving the way for global health equity through activism, health advocacy, and inclusive medical education. Duha is a doctor and journalist whose interest in global public health grew through her involvement in humanitarian work. She works internationally, supporting NGOs, the Palestinian Medical Relief Society’s mobile health clinics in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, as well as conducting health advocacy research on the needs of people living in conflict. “I can’t be a doctor and provide care without being an advocate for my patients and knowing the determinants of their health,” she says, speaking to BMJ Student from the West Bank. Through her advocacy work, Duha has attended the World Health Summit and World Health Congress on Public Health, and spoke at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.
