In 2024, the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) developed the first consensus statement on arrhythmias in the athlete, focused on evaluation, management, and return to play (RTP).1 Whereas previous athlete guidance documents addressed eligibility vs restriction, this document is unique in its overarching goal: the facilitation of athletes’ RTP, if desired, through appropriate disease- and sport-specific risk assessment and athlete-focused management of their arrhythmic conditions, such as atrial fibrillation, ventricular arrhythmias, and inherited cardiomyopathies.
