STODS can negatively impact patient satisfaction and surgical outcomes. Surgeons can reduce patient burden by identifying at-risk patients; optimizing the ocular surface before surgery; adopting surgical techniques that minimize disruption to the ocular surface; and managing postoperative symptoms proactively.
