Respiratory research funding: consequences of neglect
2025 will perhaps be one of the most turbulent years in health care to date. The medical community is still reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic, while fears for other zoonotic viruses emerge. Additionally, political agendas including strong anti-vaccination messaging and the climate crisis put a continuing strain on lung health with wildfires ever more frequent. Given the vulnerability of the respiratory system to these threats, urgent prioritisation of lung health is needed. Neglecting lung health has impacts on the entire health-care system—respiratory viruses are currently overwhelming hospitals in the UK.
