From prominent corneal nerves to multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2B
A 10-year-old girl was referred to the Ophthalmology Department at Cantonal Hospital St Gallen, Switzerland, for intermittent divergent strabismus. Ophthalmologic examination revealed prominent bilateral corneal nerve fibres (figure A and B; white arrows) and multiple nodules along the eyelid margins (figure A and C; black arrows). She also had distinct facial features that included a narrow face, prominent chin, bulging lips, and nodules on the tongue and ears (appendix p 1). During planned strabismus surgery, a biopsy of one eyelid nodule was performed due to the unusual appearance of these lesions.
