Cardiorespiratory Fitness and Mayo Clinic Proceedings
Along with Drs Ray Squires and Gerry Gau during Cardiovascular Fellowship training of one of us (C.J.L.) at the Mayo Clinic in the late 1980s, the late Dr Steve Blair was a main academic mentor in the area of physical activity (PA), exercise training (ET), and especially cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF). Dr Blair is often considered to be the “Father” of CRF by his landmark studies from the Aerobics Center Longitudinal Study (ACLS) data collected from the Cooper Clinic in Dallas, Texas. Dr Blair’s first paper in Mayo Clinic Proceedings in 2002 was related to the potential impact of PA, ET, and CRF in obesity,1 and since then, he and one of us (C.J.L.) published numerous papers together mostly on CRF during the past 2 decades, including a substantial number of research articles in Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
