Countless patients are diagnosed as “prostatitis” or “epididymitis” and given repeated doses of antibiotics, despite negative cultures and no improvement in pain. Scrotal pain, for instance, represents up to 2.5% of all outpatient urology visits and 55 million health care dollars per year. Thankfully, a new AUA guideline has been developed to address these challenging patients.
